Happy New Year From Tirnua

December 31st, 2009 by Tirnua Greg Leave a comment Share on Facebook

Electric Starter Kit

This week we have provided an easy way to get introduced into the energy game. It is not the most efficient by any means - your persona’s arm is gonna get tired - it will show the basics. The AA battery, AA battery harness and the hand crank comprise what could be loosely called the electric start kit (shown in the image).

Two person actions and chat have changed slightly. For two person actions, the initiator will route to the person they want to do the action with and the other person will be presented with the accept/cancel over the head of the initiator while they are standing near each other. (Enabling accept or cancel always works as before). Chat now displays overhead while you typing; it will not show to the other people until you hit return.

If you are unfortunate enough to have an item repossessed, you can now recover that item via My Stuff Panel and the Renewal sub-panel. If you have anything repo’d it will be listed on the renewal panel.

We hope your Holiday’s have been wonderful. We here at Tirnua, Wish You and Yours A Happy New Year!

    Interesting crank… thing.
So I guess it doesn’t work for regular batteries? :(
LOVE the idea of manual-charging, though! Even if it’s not as efficient as treading, it’s a healthy alternative… Treading gets so boring!

Glad to hear chat/actions have been altered. The bubble-appearing-over-your-head-while-you-type will stop a lot of double-chatting as everyone tries to talk at once… lol. Very good idea!

And also glad that we now WALK DIRECTLY to the person we want to interact with! Totally magnificent. :)

I’m totally glad you guys gave us this mini-update during the holiday break. Thanks so much!

And a Happy New Year to you too!

  2. Tori Says:

Atlas, we have the treadmills which is manual labor too for the reg batt’s ^_^ silly. this is a great idea for some of the smaller jobs I suppose :)
Like energy for a Dishwasher? I can’t WAIT to be able use these batt’s for the kitchen stuff! ^_^

Thanks team, and may you all have a VERY Happy New Year Celebration tonight! ^_^

    ~Tori

  3. Nors Says:

Hum, sounds fun. . . But like Atlas said; It may isn’t for other batteries D:?
Well, I think the “crank” sounds a bit farfetched, thought.

The new interact options and stuffs, is absolutely wonderful! :D

  4. FUGLY Says:

BOUGHT ONE LAST NIGHT, BEEN CHARGING UP MY RED BATTERY WITH IT. I LOVE IT. NOT A TREADMILL HA HA HA.

  5. BillyBob Says:

Hi, as FUGLY points out, it works for all battery harnesses so any battery can be charged with it, although you might get tired. :)

  6. Tori Says:

Yay! We can use it with other batt’s then! But like he said, you WILL get tired, each “crank” only does 2/200 for example, so it will take a while ;)

    <3 :D

    ~Tori

  7. FUGLY Says:

YEAH, IT TAKES A WHILE, BUT IT IS NICE FOR THOSE OF US SIMS WHO DONT HAVE THEIR PHYSICAL ENERGY AT 8 TO CHARGE UP A BATTERY. SO IF YOUR AWAY FOR A LONG TIME AND YOUR PHYSICAL GOES DOWN BELOW 8, YOU CAN USE ONE OF THESE TO CHARGE UP A BATTERY AND BUILD UP YOUR ENERGY SKILL AT THE SAME TIME.

  8. Raisin Says:

    Hi all :)
I had to check out the new stuff!
I see you have also modified the new player experience and questing. It’s starting to get really good.

Some notes I made while testing that might help out:

    - A small bug with the new hand crank:
When you connect a battery to it, it connects with “Electric source”. To be consistent it should be “Electric sink”. Other than that i like it, see below.

The rest perhaps should be written under the new user experience part but I’ll put it here all the same, hope that’s okay.

    - The new Facebook photo frame with information is brilliant! It shows them there is plenty to discover, and raises interest. Great idea.

    - It says “Store owners with store license have bigger discounts”. I haven’t noticed this but maybe it’s in the works?
IMO some restrictions should then be placed on becoming a store owner.
Raise the price of the store license to 2500 tau would be good imo. I don’t see the need for there to be that many stores. Also if there will be additional discounts it needs to cost a bit to prevent a huge rise in the number of stores, making them even harder to search through.

    - The map events = a good way for newbies to find advanced players and see what they’re up to. Good idea. Trouble is that when I tried it, all interesting map events led to “Owner only” places. (Boiler event, watering etc)
There we get back to the old issue of child proofing the machinery. I do think it would be an easy way to help us old players improve the new user’s experience.
If child proofed, other machinery such as scanner/printer etc could use a map event, maybe conveyor belts too.

    - Secure trade with someone in the game, only goes through after someone accepts a trade. Might be okay. Other actions go through on trying alone.

    - Cool that you fixed the 10 minute timer on dip kiss!

    - Add a wall to your lot, previous quest no longer gives you a wall to add. It can be done without actually adding it I think though.

    - The radio object has no “Learn to use” box. Newbies won’t know what to do with it.

    - If you click on “Get a job” and then “Goto [jobsite]” you get a msgbox “An error occured while trying to send you to the job”. It should instead say “You have to click on Apply for job first”. This is when you click on your own persona to go to the job.

    - Now that there’s work done on new player’s experiences, I would also stress the importance of either making the quest objects untradeable or limiting accts per IP. I believe this to be an important thing for the game economy. Increasingly so.

    - I would also like a “report” button on the emails.

    - Who is Caro Reyes? (hehe)

    New player experience aside;
I like this new little object as well, the hand crank. It’s a nice thing for the newbies to learn how to connect the battery and so on. It only gives 2 energy points per “crank” and then the char stops. And it’s very nice with the msgbox that tells you what the problem is if you can’t use it (i.e. your Pv is too low). If I’m being critical I might say that I hope they don’t stand there cranking it all day long… But there is already info about other ways to make energy so it should be okay.

Also thanks so much for the Block and the other things you’re doing with that. I appreciate that.
Great about the store license object.

I also like the repossession tab, it’s helpful. It could be made to show things that are about to be repossessed too, perhaps a week in advance. I rarely put my leases on the lots.

You devs are doing an amazing job (special thanks to Cort, who in my opinion needs a substantial pay rise for his kindness, (hehe) and ofc Greg, always helpful and very cool).
Happy new year all americans :)

  9. Renee Says:

Where is our new years hats?!?! *cries*

  10. CherryBomb_2700 Says:

Thank you for the version notes, Raisin! (Hint, hint to the devs)

  11. CherryBomb_2700 Says:

P.S. The recycling stations were super-charged. They now run twice as fast, use half as much electricity, and a whole lot less mental energy (less than half as much, maybe?). The extra speed, especially, was needed. Guess I will have to use my 12.6 Vm food for something else.

  12. Raisin Says:

    lol :)
Yeah version notes to the people I say!

I have to try that recycling station now. Sounds great. Especially if your mental doesn’t go down as fast, I never got around to making M-food. But recycling stuff helps too, as someone pointed out earlier.

I’ve done a little bit to try and help the newbies now - I put some signs on how to use the items at The Sweat Shop. And made the place a little more interactive.
For instance, a sign that explains how to use the boiler, a sign that explains how to use the recycling station, a sign that tries to briefly explain Liar’s dice and encourages them to try. I did manage to get some people to try these items.
Maybe something like that could be done by other players too, we really need these new players to stay.

I wish we could have lots that are twice as large, so we could make a real “Newbie fun house”, lol… but lag would probably be too bad. Maybe the lots could somehow be connected. So you could see the lot next to it, and go there, sort of like you’re able to see the neighbors house in Sims. That way we could really have a Megamall or amusement park.
Better shut up before I go OT too much but I got inspired by the newbie quest changes. :)

  13. Sweet Says:

HAPPY NEW YEAR, EVERYONE!!…as usual, thanks to our wonderful devs… :))

Raisin… love you & your comments, as usual… you are the BOMB!… i always look forward to reading EVERYONE’s comments, but yours are so thorough & well thought out… ALL I CAN SAY IS… DITTO, DITTO, DITTO… i can not even begin to keep up w/ you, but i can watch & learn… xo!

  14. CherryBomb_2700 Says:

Raisin, I thought we had “Go To” arrows that would lead to another lot. I have not tried them out, but I thought about sticking a comment into the stores discussion. I know that megamall concept is used a lot in Second Life. “This portal to Women’s Accessories”, etc.

Sweet, Raisin is pretty cool, but she is not THE bomb. I am! ME, ME, ME!!

  15. Sweet Says:

..omg, CherryBomb… you are ALSO the BOMB!!!… in my world, there is more than enuf BOMBNESS to go around!… :D

…LOVE that hydroponic platform, CherryBomb, & your fuzzy math…he he he… (i miss kneedeep…. resurrect him, bring him back from six feet under, pleeeeeeez… nothing against Spike, he’s nice enuf… xo)

    :))

  16. Malachi Says:

Yep, as Cherry Bomb says, the recycling stations are on steroids now - eating up the trash pretty good! That is much appreciated!

  17. Bella_50511313 Says:

I have a water can that will not get off my hand every time I go somewhere the water can is with me I need help!
