Create Seeds

January 30th, 2010 by TirNua Audrey Leave a comment Share on Facebook

Turn your garden flowers into seeds with the new Thresher Machine

Now there is a way to extract seeds from your garden flowers and sell them. Just drop them into the Thresher Machine and out will come some new seeds. With more than 50 different variations of hybrid garden plants available, and more on the way, you can now collect the seeds for all of them and open up your very own garden store!

The amount of seeds you produce will depend on the health of the flower and your green thumb score. The healthier your plant and the higher your green thumb score is, the more seeds you will reap! The thresher will also place the resulting fiber in the closest fiber bin on your lot or in your inventory. Dead or still growing plants will not produce any seeds but you will still get the fiber out of them.

If there is no seed bag under the spout one will be created for you. If there is one there it needs to be an empty bag or one that already contains the same seeds as the plant you are threshing.

Player Fruit Cart for the Farmers’ Market

For the second phase of three phases for the Farmers’ Market feature, purchase your own Fruit Cart to place on your lot and start selling your fruit in bulk. Crates of fruit with 8 pieces of fruit per crate can be sold at a time. You can find the Fruit Carts in the Food Store - you will need to purchase one for each different kind of fruit, including the rare oranges, that you plan to sell.

Any clue about what the third phase of the Farmer’s Market will be? If it is some way to actually BUY from customers, that would be AWESOME!

    2. FUGLY Says:

I THINK EVERY ITEM IN GAME SHOULD BE TRADEABLE AND SELLABLE. EVEN THE TIRNUA GLOBE THAT FOUNDERS HAVE.

    3. Cutsie Says:

I agree with Fugly. In TSO, I was known for selling rares, and I would like to eventually do the same thing in Tirnua. Not to mention, what is the point of things being non-tradeable or non-sellable? Oh and also, we really need thicker updates like we got in the past. I think we talked about this last week. It’s really getting redundant having just one new thing every week. I know you guys have issues to fix, but that goes without saying. I’m getting a bit bored with this game, and I am not the only one. I hate to say that because I love this game, but i have to be truthful. Another truth is that i don’t expect to abandon the game, but i don’t want to do what i did once before and what many others do, leave for an extended period of time and come back after a while so that you can FINALLY be impressed with the changes you see.

Again, Please Please Please give us more to be excited about.

Thank you for listening and for changing the chat :)

    4. Raisin Says:

      I like the update!
Getting tempted to do the gladioluses (only done a few) but it’ll have to wait a while since I’m on a mission. :p

      Fugly;
“I THINK EVERY ITEM IN GAME SHOULD BE TRADEABLE AND SELLABLE. EVEN THE TIRNUA GLOBE THAT FOUNDERS HAVE.”

      But why?
Why sell a bag of garbage that is meant to be piling up and being difficult to get rid of for gameplays sake, a quest that can be exploited and done over and over, the newbie items they get for free and so on? I understand if you want to be able to sell rares, and I agree, but there are some items that should be “soulbound” even in this game. I read somewhere (in the wiki probably) that they pride themselves on putting every new item in the Tirnua stores, so maybe that’s why they’re selling empty parts crates.

      I love the small updates;
      - that you can’t price stuff if it can’t be bought (priced trash is still priced though, dunno if that needs to be purged somehow, or removed from the item count for stores - I think stuff priced at 0 tau is also removed from the item count)
      - the chat (someone even said chat is much quicker now, and I think I agree)
      - the new friends events are okay, it looks much nicer, but I’ve always thought everything you have done during the day shouldn’t be broadcasted to the world so :)

    5. Raisin Says:

      CB;
“If it is some way to actually BUY from customers, that would be AWESOME!”

I thought there was, the dialog on the cart says “set your buying price”. But it was the buyers buying price. You set it to whatever people can buy your crate of 8 oranges for.
Maybe the carts could have like a buying price and a selling price. Maybe that would be confusing for the people who go to the farmer’s market to sell their oranges (to a Tirnua cart) if there were player carts there that paid more. I’m assuming next step is that we can place our carts in the Farmer’s market.

    6. Cutsie Says:

      Raisin,

I don’t sell garbage, but I don’t see why we shouldn’t be able to. Garbage is useful now and not everyone may have it piled up like we do. But you bring up a good point, unless the devs finally specify the amounts in items (i.e. seed bags, orange crates, floor tiles, etc) non-full items should not be able to be sold. I would say that is the only thing that should be unsellable under those specific circumstances, though I would prefer for the amounts to be shown so that they are sellable in a fair way :)

    7. CherryBomb_2700 Says:

Hmmm. I was thinking of the carts being set up on player lots rather than in the Farmers’ Market, but your option would sure be efficient (in a market sense) with every buyer’s cart lined up in one place. Talk about cutthroat competition!

    8. Cutsie Says:

ok, but why would we take all the extra steps of going to the farmers market when we can sell oranges in bulk from crates? granted, the amount of oranges available on the fruit cart are less than the crates and may sell better in smaller quantities, but still not worth it to me, though could be cool for others or even for me in the future. I guess i dont have amount excess oranges for this to work for me so much.

When i am done watering i will check out the FM again, but couldnt there be a problem of too many carts there?

    9. Cutsie Says:

CB - it says above in the blog “purchase to place on your lot”.

The market is much prettier than before though I’m not sure if we really need it? Will it become obsolete like the Tirnua Arboretum?I guess I have to wait to see phase 3, but it just seems maybe there could be better things worked on.

Perhaps it would help if a blog was made of what to expect from Tirnua in the next 6 months. This would be helpful to players like myself to help “see the vision” and help us stick around, though I can see there is a possibility of it having an adverse effect by turning people off if they aren’t happy what they read.

    10. Atlas Says:

I agree with you Cutsie, but if they do end up being turned off from what they read, well… It’ll help the Devs steer clear of such choices if it makes TONS of players leave. So really, your suggestion would help on both ends! That is, keep us interested and excited for future updates, as well as help give the Devs the feedback they need before wasting their time developing parts of the game that are best left… well, left out.

Also, if the Farmers’ Market IS going to be a place where we can all place our fruit for sale, I think that’ll help the fruit market a LOT. As it is now, I myself am having issues finding fruit crates set for sale on lots. They’re either all bought, or the market is still too small for people to know that there’s a growing demand for them (I for one am not the orange-picking type, so I’ll gladly buy from other users… for a fair price, of course).

Anyway, the introduction of the Farmers’ Market as a place for us all to sell fruit would be fantastic; no more store-hopping for that one specific food product - no more weeding through laggy store after laggy store, only to find nothing.

Really, I see this Farmers’ Market succeeding, especially later in the game’s life as new crops and growable things are introduced. And I can see some rarer crops eventually being introduced… Not sure if the Devs have such a thing planned, but rare stuff will always keep our economy thriving and full of unexpected fun, so… Definitely something to think about. : )

Eventually, when more crops are added, I can see the Farmers’ Market being three to five separate lots… Assuming the Devs are going to give us lots of stuff to grow, of course. ;)

    11. CherryBomb_2700 Says:

Right now, there is a wide range of prices for fruit. Some people are willing to pay 10 Tau for an orange while others are giving them away, and they argue in the forums about how much an orange is actually worth. This is an obvious symptom of an inefficient market. The fact is, nobody really knows how much an orange is “worth”, FOB, because the transaction costs are so high that they swamp the intrinsic value of the orange. There is a strong incentive for everyone to own their own orchard, just to make sure they have a personal supply and bypass the transaction costs. As a result, TirNua has many, many more orchards than it actually needs, and a lot of fruit is left to rot in the fields or pile up in warehouses.

With an efficient market operating, we will know pretty quick how much an orange is worth, and I imagine some people will cut down their orchards and put the lot to more productive use, since they will be able to buy what they need easily at a fair price.

    12. Cutsie Says:

OK, well I guess I’m confused. The title says it shall be sold at the Farmer’s Market, but the description says to be placed on your own lots

“Player Fruit Cart for the Farmers’ Market

For the second phase of three phases for the Farmers’ Market feature, purchase your own Fruit Cart to place on your lot and start selling your fruit in bulk.”

I guess a farmer’s market could be cool in the future cuz they are very cool in real life, but again, how would it be controlled so that one person doesn’t take all the cart space in the market? It would really help if a dev could explain this.

And that’s a good way of looking at a blog for future plans atlas. You’re right, it could help the devs decide which ideas the players are most excited about (and hopefully push them out sooner) and which ideas to back off of. This would also help them determine on what we will SPEND OUR MONEY!

Oh and Atlas, I sell fruit crates at Flowers & Fruits, I never sell half-empty crates if you want to check them out via the sales tab panel. It was closed to visitors to prevent over watering, but I think friends can get in :)

    13. CherryBomb_2700 Says:

Also, this is off topic, but could we somehow get the Electrical Substation off the “Most Visited” list, and also not to be ranked in “Open Lots”? We are getting a LOT of new players lately (Where are we getting them?), and selling your electricity is turning into a real adventure with 5 or 6 of them in there at once all clicking on your battery.

    14. Atlas Says:

Yeah, I agree with CB. I foresaw this coming months ago - can we maybe get more than just one Substation?
Shouldn’t be that hard… I mean, there are many job lots… But then again, I don’t know these things.

And Cutsie, I’ll be sure to keep that in mind! :) I’ll come buy all of your fruit soon enough, guaranteed! lol
I need to save up money first, of course. I splurged on batteries. ;)

I agree - adding a blog for future plans will help them expand for PROFIT, which will make them happy as well as us, of course! Because then we’ll want to spend our money, and we’ll want to stick around… And of course, profit means the game can expand. :D Whee! Sounds like a plan to me. :P

    15. Raisin Says:

      Short reply to the selling garbage part;
The reason it shouldn’t be sellable is that it’s a part of gameplay that people should have a hard time getting rid of their trash. To mimic the real world. If we could sell it, it would be just like any other commodity.

      About the Farmer’s market;
I noticed the lot has been expanded and there are some strange tiles on the floor and came to the conclusion that those are spots for us to place the carts next friday, but I’m just guessing.
Agree with Atlas, it could be a really fun lot to sell things on, once we get our giant pumpkins and other rare fruit we can sell there. A start towards a market place?

      About the thresher;
We tried it out today. I was hoping it was an item guests could use.
      It works like this:
      - You drag your flower from inventory and put it on top of the machine
      - Then you thresh it
      - It produces a bag of seeds on the ground
      - I have 23 in Green thumb and for me it produced a bag of 4 geranium seeds for one threshed geranium

You have to be a roomie to be able to place the flower on the machine, and when the bag comes out, it’s untradeable. I don’t know why it’s untradeable, perhaps they just want us to grow more of the plants ourselves, and then sell the plants. But we can’t sell the seeds themselves and we can’t make seeds for anyone else.

How do those ground plants work, can you cross breed them with potted flowers? Or just other ground plants?

One really nice thing would be if we could get a random rare seed sometimes too, or something else. Some sort of random reward for threshing. Some seed you could grow… And see what will come up… I wouldn’t mind a bit of humor either, something funny as well as useful :)

Speaking of random rewards, I think they have tuned down that money you could find in the trash. I used to get 50-250-500 tau but now the most I’m getting is 5 tau, and that’s very rare. It’s a shame really but okay I guess. It didn’t pay out that often before either.

    16. FUGLY Says:

WHY NOT BE ABLE TO SELL GARBAGE, CAN SELL IT TO A SIM WHO WANTS TO BUY IT FOR 1 EACH. AND THE PERSON WHO BUYS IT MAY JUST WANT TO BUY IT AND HOPE TO GET LUCKY AND GET MORE MONEY AND OTHER STUFF FROM THE RECYCLING MACHINE.

ALSO, DIDNT A PLAYER IN THIS GAME MAKE A SIM CALLED THE GARBAGE MAN. WOULDNT IT BE NICE TO GIVE ALL YOUR TRASH TO THAT SIM AND LET THEM DO WHAT THEY WANT WITH IT?

ALSO, I WOULD LIKE TO SEE EGGS, TIRNUA GLOBES, NEW YEARS HATS AND OTHER ITEMS ABLE TO BE TRADEABLE OR SELLABLE. THERE MAY BE SIMS WHO HAVE THOSE ITEMS AND WANT TO GET RID OF THEM BUT CANT BECAUSE OF THIS BLOCK THE DEVS HAVE ON THEM.

    17. Cutsie Says:

About garbage, sure in the real world, trash is not a commodity, but recyclables are. There are many places where you can turn in your tin or glass for some cash, I know in NY people would crowd the machines that did this behind the supermarket. since the garbage is used to recycle items from, in that sense, selling garbage does mimic the real world. I honestly didn’t even know that we got money out of the machine lol, but I would think this gives even more reason to keep trash sellable.

    18. Raisin Says:

Yeah Garbage Man was made to go around collecting people’s trash until I noticed it was untradeable. :)
If it should be tradeable, it should be to licensed garbage men only. Hehe.

      About the Farmer’s Market:
I noticed a lot of people are coming to my lot, asking how to sell their oranges in the orange cart.
I thought nothing of it at first, but they are multiplying! :)
The map search “Farmer’s markets” goes to everyone who has a cart and my lot seems to be at the top of that list. The real farmer’s market is in 10′th place there. To add to the confusion, there is a player store named Farmer’s market too.

    19. Raisin Says:

I made a goto to the real farmer’s market, might help someone.
Also noticed The Farmer’s market now pays 2 tau each fruit, more for rares.

    20. CherryBomb_2700 Says:

The found money from recycling trash has gone to about zero (still looking for that missing wedding ring :)). They seem to have slowed down too, so trash recycling is not a money-maker any more.

    21. BillyBob Says:

      * I will look into the trash cash - nothing should have changed there.

      * Trash will likely not be tradable in the way things are now. However, there may be a dumpster object for garbage men (or something similar) and a “trash can” object which will allow a player to pay for pickup from another player.

      * Also, expect a negative effect for having trash - negative carbon point or the like - per some interval. Do not want to add this until we do a similar, positive
thing for trees and plants. These will likely show up in the same update in the future.

      * Yep the farmer’s market search needs improved. What would you think about a “Powered Farmer’s Market Permit”?

      * Speaking of farmer’s market: the goal is for a player or player’s to set up a better market place. Hoping to provide the tools for that to happen. So please, let us know what tools are needed. For example, added a new ‘dropon’ which allows someone else’s cart onto your lot. Also, was thinking of adding the ability for a cart to be setup to buy.

      * Ugh. Brutal weekend. Sorry. Hopefully, that is the last of the data center troubles.

As usual, thanks for the feedback!

      greg

    22. CherryBomb_2700 Says:

I can tell you exactly what tool is needed.

We need the ability to set the carts to “buy.” With only the “sell” option, we only have half a market. With a “buy”, trade will go quicker than %$@* thru a goose.

    23. Raisin Says:

There’s a tiny problemo, too, the players seem to just put their fruit on top of the cart and leave. :)
I guess if you click “sell” it disappears? But the orange cart has been blocked all morning at the Tirnua Farmers Market. Two fruit boxes sitting on it and nobody can throw them out except the owner of the lot, so nobody can sell anything I suppose.
Maybe they should be ejected from the cart when the person leaves the lot, just like the boiler stops if you leave.

Sounds like I have to start burning all that trash I have… lol… :)
People are gonna PANIC if they get bad carbon for that. At least if we don’t get info beforehand about what bad carbon is gonna be used for in the future. Maybe we could get some roaches that gnaw away at our fruit supply and give us nasty diseases, too.
Love the news about a possible dumpster object and garbage men! (GM is going to be a walking disease that goes around infecting everyone)

      Farmer’s Market permit sounds cool.
I would want to have some sort of “rules” to that though, so not everyone can buy a permit and stick it in their house where they have 2 oranges lying on the floor under the couch, or stick it in their store just to get more business. At least a store sign and a farmer’s market sign shouldn’t be allowed in the same lot.
Would also like some rule that made the player-run farmer’s markets better. Maybe that you can’t have a farmer’s market unless there are 10-15 carts… Or room for others to place their carts there… Or something.

In the future it would be fun if there was something we could only do on a Farmers market lot.
Make bread in a special oven there or something, bring our pigs there to learn how to fly or whatever :p Or collect honey from the bee hive, churn our butter, whatever you could do at a Farmer’s market. So it would become a service place too.
If the lots are specializing there should be something that can only be done on that lot.

      Ack, I’m in a silly mood :)

    24. Atlas Says:

I want to emphasize the AMAZING sentence our dear ol’ Prune has typed for us. ;)

“If the lots are specializing there should be something that can only be done on that lot.”
      THIS. IS. GOLD!!!
If we’re ever to get more of a community spirit going around town, it’ll have to come down to you lovely Devs making community lots for us that have unpurchasable interactive objects… I’d LOVE to see beekeeping added to the game personally (as will a lot of us… and why not!? We have a healthy bear community  ), and really, it doesn’t make sense for us to keep them on our own lot… Instead I’d like to see one specific lot where we can tend to the bees, harvest the honey (even get the billows going to sedate them ;)), risk getting stung, etc. … I think it’d be fantastic! :)
Of course, since bees aren’t like growing plants, I think that if we’re to ever get beekeeping and eventually other livestock, there needs to be some sort of Herder score or something… And of course, the higher the score, the more honey you produce, etc. :)

The only thing with these scores is that, well… Where’s the line drawn in terms of being TOO broad? Should a beekeeper also be able to raise cows for beef? Should a flower grower be able to grow rice without much hassle at all?

I don’t know, I don’t want to see a million obscure scores specific to each animal and plant/crop type, but I want to see room for specialization. If you’re able to grow or tend to anything successfully, then why bother interacting with other users?

We need to branch away from that way of thinking. To me, anyway. :)

    25. Qute Pi Says:

I love things; I hate things; but overall I appreciate the hours of amusement the devs provide me with every week.
For the future tho, could we keep the servers crashes to a week day thing lol. jk ;)

Thanks devs for your hard work in trying to make us all happy! We have come a looooong way!!!! It’s so exciting to see how much has been accomplished over the past year. Makes me giddy. :\

    26. Groovybear Says:

I agree Qute, there are things I absolutely love and then things that I kind of cringe over. However the Devs work hard for us and are always willing to listen and take our suggestions, it is up to them what they do with those suggestions. I know if I made an online game it would consist of stick men going around on a white screen, so to that I say they do a fabulous job. Rather, I enjoy the weekly updates or am not 100% happy with what we get. I choose to pay monthly and anxiously await to see what is next, if I did not get some sort of enjoyment from this game I would go play something else. It’s that simple. The market/economy will never be completely stable, in this game or any other games that are out there online.

(P.S Atlas with Bees scares me a little)

    27. Raisin Says:

I think the santa clothes and Lucia crown should be taken out of the store now, it won’t be fun next christmas when everyone’s been wearing the 0 tau christmas clothes all year around.
(Not that it has anything to do with this blog post, sorry, lol) :)

    28. Qute Pi Says:

I’d like to see a machine that turns paper into cards or notes we could personalize and send to others.
