TirNua’s Farmers’ Market

January 23rd, 2010 by TirNua Audrey Leave a comment Share on Facebook

Take your fruit to the Farmers’ Market and sell it to TirNua!

Check out TirNua’s Farmers’ Market by clicking on the image or link above.
Once you are there, drag a fruit crate from your inventory and place it on top of the fruit cart. Then all you need to do is click on the fruit crate and select the ’sell’ interaction.

You can easily find the TirNua Farmers’ Market anytime by looking under Popular Searches on the World Map.

Gladiolus to Grow in your Garden - along with the geraniums, you can grow gladiolus. You will find 6 color variations to buy in the flower store.

Cross-breeding and Hybridization has Arrived for your Garden Plants. As with the potted flowers, the new geranium and gladiolus garden flowers can reproduce and be cross-bred to create hybrids. Successfully harvesting your flowers will cause them to reproduce. The plants need to be close enough for pollination to occur.

Key to Note: A successful harvest can only occur if you are in close proximity of another flower plant that is fully grown, otherwise the harvest fails and your flower will die.

For more help see our in-game Help Panel and look for the help topics on Growing Flowers and Growing a Garden Plot.

Lily Flower - we have added a new potted flower to grow and harvest.

You will only be able to find this flower in the VIP Store (requires a Resident Badge) or from some Player Stores.

Other Stuff

  • Another Tuning Pass on the Treadmills - based on your player feedback we took another tuning pass on this and included the Rare Treadmills.
  • Persona Web - shows resident active days
  • Wall and Floor Editing improvements were made
  • New fuel and food depot drop-on tiles added
  • All Potted Flowers and the Store License are now only available in the VIP Store
  • Repo Deeds - if you have gotten these emails you can ignore them up to now. We have spiffed them up with more information and the earliest repo date is now February 6th.
  • Don’t forget to check out the VIP Store for the hot deals of the week!

Hi everyone - I think the farmer’s market is ok, I think newbies will probably like it and maybe sami since i went to her place earlier and she was overloaded with fruit lol. (jk sami) For 1 tau a fruit (at least regular oranges, don’t know how much the others pay), I think I will pass and allow others to pay more for my fruit.

The new flowers are pretty, but i know i’ve said before it’s not what excites me. I don’t think these flowers should be a major part of updates, but only a minor part. I do like however that they grow quickly, though i don’t own any so don’t know how frequently they must be watered.

I noticed 2 changes with chat - one i love and the other one is currently driving me crazy. I love that chat is visible when you are in other tabs. I don’t like that chat is limited to 64 characters per entry. Was this done to help lag? If so I can understand that, but i still don’t like it very much.

I know you guys are trying your best to attract and retain newbies, but I have noticed many veteran players are only popping in once a week at this point. I am sometimes in that groove too, though right now I am growing trees so of course, I am on everyday. I just think many of us veterans are a bit bored. For me, I would LOVE to see at least one more multi-player object and one more single-player object like the treadmill. Larry had said something about a flower arranging station, is this something we can look forward to soon?

I realize that there are development issues that are trying to be worked out, but I would really like to see you guys put out heftier updates like you once did. The updates lately seem a bit weak to me. For as long as I’ve played this game I have been so excited when Thursdays roll around, and now my excitement gets shot down when i realize there’s nothing for me to get excited about.

I hope my honesty is appreciated and you don’t just think I’m b*tching lol. Perhaps I am a bit, but I just wanted to communicate my feelings & concerns.

      Thanks :)

    2. Cutsie Says:

Oh, I haven’t seen any Facebook ads for Tirnua. Maybe this is something you should try. Another game’s ad caught my eye today and I think ads for Tirnua could do the same. Also, as I said before, Tirnua’s presence on stratics is minute. Someone should have them place us in the list of games.

    3. Atlas Says:

I agree wholeheartedly with Cutsie… Good for you for having the guts to say all that, Cutsie!!
I keep reasoning that, hey, it’s January, and the Holiday season just ended… But really, it’s the third week back. I kind of expected something… well, big!!
BUT, I love the Gladioluses, as I’ve already told Dominic. :) They’re excellent!

Nonetheless, next week would be a great time to prove to us that our suspense isn’t wasted… We’d love to be kept in suspense still!
Plus, a few Tirnuans purchased TAU specifically for this week’s update… Kind of stinks that they’re not exactly flower-lovers…

We know you’re a small team, but there’s more to focus on than just flowers!! Try to crank out more features, object interactions, player interactions, stuff like that! We don’t need filler, we need new things to do and explore!
Even if they’re faulty. ;) We’ve been through the kinks before, and I’m sure we’ll all vouch that we’ll go through them again, so long as the kinks are with new, interesting things, and not new variants of an old feature.

I apologize for being patronizing, of course. But hey, a happy customer is a good customer, right?

I love that we can now see the wall we’re building WHILE we build it! Plus, it seems that the wall-adding lag has diminished to just a minor tick in the system. So now we won’t be plagued with several-seconds-long lag and totally ruin the mood for our lot visitors!

I’m loving how you’re differentiating between potted and planted plants. Potted plants are, well… Blah. To me, of course. Seems like a planted plant would be *indefinitely* easier to grow, since it’s directly linked to the earth. As such, it makes perfect sense (at least to me) that the potted plants are being more… restricted. They may be pretty, but they’re harder to grow!

I’m also not sure if I like how planted plants provide ZERO Green Thumb/Good Carbon Footprint.
Don’t get me wrong - they probably shouldn’t provide Green Thumb since they’re easily grown and maintained (and thus don’t require gardener know-how)… BUT, they DEFINITELY SHOULD provide Good Carbon Footprint. Because there’s currently ZERO incentive to grow them.

    4. FUGLY Says:

AGAIN I WILL REPEAT MYSELF, MULTI PLAYER OBJECTS, THINGS SUCH AS WAR GAMES WE HAD IN TSO, CARD GAMES TO PLAY AGAINST EACH OTHER. SOMETHING TO MAKE SIMS INTERACT WITH EACH OTHER IN A FUN WAY. AND FOR THOSE WHO DO IT FOR GAIN, MAYBE MAKE IT SO WE CAN PUT A WAGER ON THE GAMES OR BUILD UP SKILLS. MAYBE MORE SOCIAL INTERACTIONS LIKE DANCING WOULD BE NICE ALSO.

    5. Madoria's Twin Says:

I actually liked the less time on the treadmill since it is something I never liked dong in Tirnua… it is no fun watching
the Persona walk on it… but we need it to make energy to use att the manufacturing and other machinery.
I think that is one reasn layers go afk… if you don’t chat with someone off course.

More time on the tread means less time for watering and socializing in Tirnua.

Love the plants to grow on the ground and love the potted ones to…

At the moment the cost for making floors is not very realisitc since not many players wil buy a stack of 30 for 300 TAU or more. That holds me off making them.

Yes.. some more multi player things would be nice!

    6. Andrea Says:

      Great Update! :)

    7. Raisin Says:

      Just a couple comments, more later I guess;
      Overall a great update!

      FARMER’S MARKET
Yeah the farmer’s market seems to pay 1 tau per fruit no matter which fruit it is. Tried it with 8 apples, got 8 tau.
I think that price is fine (and there’s no way I’m selling my fruit for that, hehe, 72 tau for several hours work picking the fruit is way too little, then I’d sooner not pick it) but it could be okay for the new players/guests. I also don’t think it should be higher than that.
(The bulk of the cash that’s going around in the game should come from bought money/stipends. So I want player to player selling/buying to be the most lucrative.)
However the fruit carts should give you an option to accept/deny selling your fruit for that price, so you can check the price and then be able to cancel.

      CHAT
      I agree with Cutsie.
The string is way too short. I always have to cut whatever I’m saying into 2-3 sentences and that can be really confusing when talking on a busy lot, not to mention annoying.
256 is better, if it creates lag, maybe it’s possible to make a separate chat server, like in wow. The whole world can crash but you can still chat.
In the games I’ve played, the chat problems have been the most annoying ones - like in swg when the chat lag sometimes got so bad that you didn’t see your messages in 5 minutes… That is just one of the most stressful things. Even if everything else crashes, chat has to work. (So you can at least complain! lol) :)

      TREADS
Haven’t tried it enough yet but I like it. 1 orange = 375 energy the one time I tried it. 3 oranges = approx 1000.
Seems like they reduced it to 15 per tick instead of 25 per tick (at 50 physical) and there are 3.25 “ticks” in each energy point or something like that.
I can understand that people prefer the faster pace of course, especially now that we got used to it. But I personally think it makes the economy more balanced to have it slower like it is now.

      NEWBIES
Spoke to someone who said it’s impossible to get started making money, the fruit costs more than you get from the battery (10 tau) in the beginning. But if they keep on running they’ll build up strength and start making more money. Just hoping they keep at it. Maybe there could be a tooltip somewhere that stresses this (that their strength does increase and it gets easier and easier to fill a battery) so they understand that and don’t give up.
Possibly their initial P-value could be increased to 15 or something? That way they wouldn’t drop below 8 so quickly and be clueless about how to continue. If they drop below 8 they can’t afford to buy food to get the strength back up.
(Hardest part is to get started. After you passed the first bottle neck there you’re fine.)

One really great thing is that I’ve seen several new players from tso lately. Somehow they are finding the game, which is cool! I love chatty people instead of silence :)
We now have at least 2 bears (lol)

      GROUND PLANTS
I like them, not for my own sake so much as for the people who love decorating their lots. It gives the game another dimension. If it’s followed up by more decorating tools the lots could start looking really personal. If possible maybe you could do something about the decorative trees and fruit trees, and let them be put closer to each other, or let people put geraniums and plants closer to them/around the stems etc. A small thing of course, but we have plenty of builders and decorators who want/need to be creative that way.
Others want more action too and not just the deco stuff, I can understand that too since I’m not a decorator.

BIO FUEL TILES AND FRUIT TILES
Thanks for the bio fuel ‘place to drop’-tile, great!
What are the fruit tiles meant to be used for by the way? I had an idea to put a couple of fruit tiles on the lot and let guests place fruit on them and sell. But that doesn’t work - guests can’t price anything.
You should separate the “For sale” and “Recycle” buttons into 2 buttons and let the “Set for sale” button be visible for them at all times.

      MULTIPLAYER OBJECTS
Agreed. (Maybe there is a difficulty since there’s no game client.) Save the world Pizza :)

      BUFFING RESIDENTS
I like that. The shop sign and the new flower only available for residents. Thumbs up from me at least.

      NEW PLANTS
I would like a new tree! A pear tree. And instead of being able to get rare trees, 1/10000 fruits could be a … umm … a partridge in a pear tree. ;)
The partride could lay eggs and Fugly could eat the partridge if he got hungry enough. There would be no other way to get yourself your own pet partridge than to harvest it yourself from a pear tree.

      Hehe :)

    8. Raisin Says:

By the way does anyone have a rare treadmill - have you tested it?
Do you make energy faster on them now?
How much do you get from 1 orange?

    9. CherryBomb_2700 Says:

Oof! My boilers were nerfed! They only make about a third as much electricity as before. Oh well, they were overpowered before.

Red treadmills work like normal ones. Blues give 18 per tick.

Not just the lily, Raisin. ALL potted plants are VIP only, now. Working on some black lilies.

    10. Saniel Says:

      No… It can’t be…

      MORE FLOWERS! D:

I like the farmers market though. :P

    11. Atlas Says:

Ooh, nice to know Cherry! You better set up two blue treads at Ichiban (SP?), or else you’ll be shot. :)

    12. Raisin Says:

Oh okay, so it’s not that much then.
I don’t really like some treadmills being buffed. I’m afraid it can lead to the same situation as when they introduced the 5-in-1-battery harness and we more or less had to throw away everything we had already bought, and got no compensation. I have plenty of money riding on treadmills… As do many, many others in the community - but my store is stuffed with them for sale so I’d be hit pretty hard if they were made obsolete.
      * shakes fist * lol :)

    13. Qute Pi Says:

I am not happy with the tread speed. I’m not going to argue why or debate the subject, but its so slow there is almost no point for me to waste my day treading in Tirnua.

    14. Malachi Says:

I remember in the last days of TSO when Tirnua was just a rumor that Luc was going to implement. I remember perceving that Tirnua would be a grassroots effort by a small number of developers and that it would be unique and inspiring because of that fact. That’s the way it has played out from my perspective. Sure it doesn’t have all the features we would like to have right now…but it allows for user input and the developers listen and respond. Can’t blame them for looking to add as many new members as possible and pay attention to the business end of it too. Don’t imagine the devs are pulling in six figure salaries for sure.

I’m all for the grassroots, citizen participation style and hope it stays that way.

    15. Raisin Says:

      4 oranges = 1380 now (28p)
      6 oranges = 1400 before they were buffed (42p)

So 1400 was 42 points and is now approx 29 points energy.
I guess we got used to it being higher for that one week and now this feels slow.
Maybe it can be buffed a little bit more but I dunno. Doesn’t matter that much to me as long as it’s balanced.

    16. Cutsie Says:

I thought Billy Bob said that the tread speed would be halfway between where it was and where it was changed to last week? did this happen or is it now lower than the halfway point mentioned?

please change the chat, it’s driving me crazy

    17. Raisin Says:

I think it is roughly halfway.

For about 1400 energy it’s gone from needing
      (Originally) 42 p = 6 oranges
      to
      (Last week) 15.5 p = 2.25 oranges
      to
      (This week) 28.5 p = 4 oranges

      Halfway: 42-15.5 = 26.5/2= 13.25+15.5 = 28′ish, which is where we are.

My numbers are slightly off since it’s difficult to measure it (Tirnua numbers would be clearer) but it looks like halfway.

    18. Qute Pi Says:

I’m not concerned about the numbers I’m concerned about how many hours in a day I’m sitting on Tirnua treading.
For me, I feel it takes too much time. Its a never ending thing if you want to use batteries for anything, other than cashing them in for tau. I don’t know how to determine if its “balanced” or not, considering this game is far from being complete. I can see why newbies wouldn’t stick around if so many things are revolved around charging batteries and good/bad carbon. Eitherway, still not happy.

    19. Atlas Says:

I think what’s worse than the treadmill “re-figuring” is the whole boiler deal…
Especially early on in this game, it’s just too much to ask us to have enough wood on hand to be able to make a living… Not that I use the boiler or anything - although I planned to, in the short term.
Anyway, the boiler should be a lot more efficient than the treadmill - not just a bit, but a LOT. That’s the advantage of ruining the environment, after all - it’s more efficient in the short term!

    20. Malachi Says:

Yep, boiler efficiency has really changed. I used to be able to charge a red battery on 4 units of wood. Now it takes 8.

    21. CherryBomb_2700 Says:

So you can make about 150 Tau an hour treadmilling. I figure that an hour of growing Christmas trees will produce enough biofuel for about 400 Tau. That sounds pretty good until you figure in that it is a lot of hassle: Christmas trees are touchy, you can lose a whole crop pretty easily. Then actually making the biofuel and burning it takes a lot of running around in circles and about 12,000 Tau invested in equipment. So ya, I thing the boilers were cut a bit too much. Maybe 50% higher would be about right. (From now on, I will be more specific when making tuning suggestions. Greg’s idea of “tuning” is considerably more drastic than mine is, hehe.)

    22. Qute Pi Says:

Regarding the boilers, I can only assume later in the game having a bad carbon footprint will also cost you. Of course I don’t know that, but if there is no point in trying to keep a good footprint then there really is no point in caring which one you have. I personally would like to play this game having a good footprint, and also keeping costs down, and I understand the treadmill will be slower since it doesn’t affect bad footprint. Maybe both the boiler and treadmill should be adjusted.

Spending weeks treading to accomplish something is ok, but there is also a cost of food, and harvesting or growing flowers to make salad, that takes time as well. I just don’t see any fun or profit in growing plants, making food, treading and eating it all up in a day, just to do it again the next day because you are no where near the amount of power you need to accomplish your goal. Maybe I am being petty, but I actually enjoyed doing the above last week and this week it does not feel worth it. Its not just because I got used to the speed last week its because I had fun doing it last week.

Its not like I don’t spend many many hours a day here. I still have to work in rl…and even then sometimes I leave my avatar unattended treading. How many hours in a day can you expect someone to commit to have a good footprint?

    23. Atlas Says:

By the way - where’s our Skill Lock for those of us who’ve been Residents for over 30 Days? :/
We’re supposed to get one per 30 days we’re a Resident, right? Or did I read that wrong?

I agree with Qute - last week’s speed added F-U-N to the game!! We need higher efficiency somehow, and it must be readily available to any player who invests at least an hour a day into the game. This is why we need to harvest more efficiently, to grow plants more efficiently (not to mention affordably… let’s face it, Super Grow is no longer worth how much TAU it costs!). Those who are Workout Lot hosts and hostesses shouldn’t have to do the work of an army just to keep their lot running up to par. We need some good old fashioned HC kind of method - just cook up a group meal and have the time to run around and serenade people! Lol, although perhaps serenades wouldn’t be desirable…
However, there NEEDS to be a perk for hosts/hostesses, to some degree. I mean, at this stage they’re battling lag, battery disconnectors, click-happy newbies, confused newbies… Don’t forget keeping those damn fruit stands and salad bars stocked! It’s a full time job, and it just shouldn’t be like that. Believe me, hosting should still have its hefty workload… However, it needs to feel like more of a privilege. Working hard increases people’s morale, but not when you’re required to double your workload to keep it going.

I don’t know, I hope we’re at least sounding like helpful nags, if we’re nags at all.

We need a balance of RL time budgeting worked into the game, otherwise our RL duties will consume us or be consumed by the game.
Which really just makes for a crappy decision… RL or Tirnua?
I’d rather have both around, personally. :)

    24. Raisin Says:

Hm, this issue has grown more than I thought.
There are so many aspects to it, it’s getting hard to grasp it all.

      - How easy should the game be? How easy should moneymaking be?
      - How quickly should you reach your goals?

An easy game could draw a bigger crowd into the game.
Lots of the people who try Tirnua are kids. Kids don’t do “hell levels”, they get bored and leave if it’s hard to get money and hard to reach goals.
Adults like to reach goals faster too it seems, from all the replies here.

As Qute said I guess it’s more fun if it happens faster. To a degree. Then there’s a point when easy becomes boring, and when you have enough money and nothing to buy.

Like the geraniums. Plants that are done in 5 minutes and then just sit there, does nothing for me, it has to be a challenge.

But there are casual players and.. players like me :)

      Then there’s that economy thing:
      - If we get energy/cash that quickly, people will be getting richer and richer and richer the bigger batteries we get.
      - The money will be generated ingame and not bought
      - Bot-like behavior or even bots later
      - People able to buy all the content ingame without paying anything to Tirnua
      - If we get richer and richer, there have to be better and better things to buy (not a problem now since we get stuff all the time) so there’s always something to strive for, always new goals
      - We could print items on the printer instead of stocking our stores in the normal way if energy was that easy to make - not sure if that’s desirable
      - If we’re able to make money fast it affects the price of objects etc

One way of making it easier for people to print things without having to treadmill all day long, would be to let players trade energy between them. (Like that gas station idea.) That way money wouldn’t be generated by the game, but circulate between players. If someone doesn’t want to tread all the time they could just buy the energy from someone who wants to tread.

So if you want to print 10 treadmills you could do that in an instant.

But having the energy so easily tradeable could probably be a problem too. There’s always problems you can’t imagine. Boredom and lack of goals being one of them.

Apparently though, seeing as there’s that much discontent with tuning the energy gain down, people want the game to be easier and more fun, with easier to reach goals.
Maybe we could get money easier while at the same time giving people a bigger incentive to pay for residency.

Too much money = boredom though, so…

The difference between treadmills and boiler/biofuel is that treading is easily done while afk, and boiler/biofuel requires your full attention. That’s one reason to have a higher payout on the boiler. But I have no idea how good the boiler is now compared to how it was before.

I really don’t know what would be best.
For ME, with my playing style etc, this is fine. It gives me something to aim for.
For many others it doesn’t seem to be.

    25. Qute Pi Says:

So many different styles of playing, way more than 2.

    26. Atlas Says:

I was trying to respond in a post earlier to basically say what Qute just said. P:

It’s more time-efficient for us to not spend so much time treading.
I’d rather be interacting with users, personally.

    27. Qute Pi Says:

Any chance we could push garbage (or any material) onto the conveyor belts like the boxes?

    28. BillyBob Says:

Just a heads up. Made a slight adjustment to boilers earlier tonight (Sunday evening). They should generate slightly better than right after the push.

    29. Kylei Madison Says:

My “buy object from Tirnua Store” Quest won’t open. I’ve already bought 3 things and it still just says read. Please open so I can continue on to the next quest. Thanks

    30. Gilly Says:

      I love the in ground flowers….*big grin*….but….

First a life lesson & first rule of growing geraniums: “Never harvest more plots than you can water the automatic replacement seedlings on efficiently…between 4 & 6 depending on the plant” (lost half my garden to my own impatience :P)

Now to the issues and suggestions:

*I can not find where it said, if harvesting puts seed in your bags, or not. Like if I harvest one of my hybrids, will I be able to bag and sell the seeds? Or is my only way to get more Paridise Pink or Deep Fire geraniums by duplicating the mutation? I think that we should get some seeds, even if only half the bag would produce the new color, because if using them in a landscape plan, they will be needed in multiples, and that is more effecient by seed than cross pollination. :)

*I feel we need a more efficient watering system…..being able to carry enough water for several plants at a time, rather than checking a plant and then getting water for each plant. It is too slow, and as I discovered watering too many plants *slowly* will kill them. I am really looking forward to a sprinkler system, eventually, but in the mean time, it would be really nice, if we could speed up the hand watering process, either by eliminating the ‘check the plant’ animation or with some click & drag mulitple plot move. ;)

*It is problematic to put the seed bags out, a few at a time, in order to use them, because they take up a whole tile space per bag. When planting a mixed bed, along the walkways, like I do, I only have room to put out a few at a time.
What I would like to see, is a seed stand/shelf of some sort, that would allow us to put all the seeds on it and just click on the one we are planting. A potting bench with shelves, for example. Or even that totally cute garden cart in the Farmer’s Market would work. Just an object that would allow us to put all of our seed bags out for use in one 2 to 4 tile space.

      I love this update!

Now if we could work on a few issues with tile creation (we need a preview screen!), and garden statuary, I could finally start building a formal garden or park. :D

    31. Gracie Says:

I’ve really enjoyed the flowers. The growing times on both potted flowers and flowers planted in the ground are more agreeable with my ever changing hectic schedule. I was never going to get a green thumb killing trees. So much thanks and kudos to those of us that can’t keep up with an extended schedule of watering for a week or more to grow trees. I’m looking forward to growing more things in the dirt!

I have to agree the cost of custom flooring is too high. I’d rather just live in the tall grass than to create new floors and decorate at these prices.

I spent a couple of days generating some bio fuel in order to recycle bins of stuff starting to pile up on me. I did finally learn that bio fuel is used in boilers to charge up batteries. I found it rather ironic that I was using my battery to power the machine to make bio fuel to charge a battery.

I think the Farmers Market is a great addition for the fruit growers that are not interested in running their own markets.

I checked my email. Should I be concerned that I have not recieved any repo notices? Will we get in-game emails? Speaking of email. I can’t seem to delete anything from my “Sent” folder. Do these just disappear over time?

    32. Raisin Says:

      Just thought of something else.

Is January the last month you can subscribe to the game to get the higher stipend?
The new players don’t have a clue about this. They’ll miss out. I think “how you become a resident” is too obscure and hard to find. Nobody clicks on that button.

Maybe put some huge, annoying popup during the last days of the higher stipend at least.

That last comment you made Raisin is a good idea :) I also agree that the boiler needs to provide a bigger incentive since the bad footprint you get equals the amount of battery you charge. (ex. 1600 battery=1600 bad footprint score.)
